I have over 7,500 hours of private, one-on-one and small-group tutoring experience and have also taught hundreds of students in the classroom as a college instructor.

Katie Flexing

Because I have such an interesting collection of bachelors and masters degrees (see Meet Katie, Education), I can tutor everything from writing to mathematics to the ACT or GRE. I’ve worked with middle school students in pre-algebra and beginning geometry, high school students preparing for the ACT, seniors writing college essays, and college students in their second semester of calculus.

I particularly enjoy helping students who struggle in mathematics or feel they are poor test takers – this is where I can see incredible transformation. A student who, in the first session of tutoring, says “I hate math” or “I’m terrible at tests” becomes a student who discovers that her math problems are understandable – and solving them can even be kind of fun – or his newfound understanding of how to approach test questions makes him feel confident going into the ACT. Seeing that success and empowerment – that is the reason I love to tutor.

Developing relationships and rapport with my students is central to my approach to tutoring. I tailor my tutoring style to the unique needs of each student with whom I work because I care about the individual, both as a person and learner. This is how I empower students, helping them to gain the skills and confidence they need to be successful.
